60+ Profitable Ideas for Digital Products to Sell by Niche

Are you looking for ideas on how to sell digital products online? You've come to the right place! In this article, we'll share our top 60 profitable niche ideas for digital products.

When you think about selling digital products, what comes to mind?

I bet you’re thinking “e-books!”

But there is more to digital products than just e-books. In fact, there’s a whole world of opportunity out there for digital product selling ideas. This post is designed to help you think beyond the classic how-to ebook (not that there’s anything wrong with that!) to help you come up with digital products to sell on Etsy, Squarespace, Shopify, your Stan store…pretty much anywhere.

Thinking outside the box is essential in the online space and that’s what I’m here to help with today!

Before we get into the list of digital product ideas that I’ve organized by niche, let’s define what a digital product is.

What is a digital product?

A digital product is an item that exists only in a digital form such as a file, software. The most common format is a PDF, but the options are endless. When a digital product is purchased, the customer receives a copy of the file that can be downloaded as their own.

A digital product can be reference material (such as an ebook), a template file (such as a Google Doc or design file) access to a tool (a Notion template) or a unique format like a pack of Lightroom presets or  music files.

What are the pros and cons of selling digital products?

As with anything, there are pros and cons to selling digital products. If you ask me, the pros outweigh the cons but it is helpful to be informed and educated so you know what to look out for.

Pros to digital product selling

  • Scalable: once you upload it, you can sell a limitless number with very little upkeep.

  • Space efficient: no inventory to stock and store!

  • Easy to create: if you have Canva, you can easily create a number of digital products

  • Exponentially rewarding: you put in work up front, but once it’s listed you can earn money from the product for years to come!

  • Higher profit margin: since there are no supplies or packaging required, it’s much easier to maintain a healthy profit margin.

Cons to digital products

  • Highly competitive: the downside of digital products being easy to create is that anyone can do it so the space tends to be competitive

  • Prone to copycats: I like to believe most people have good intentions. But unfortunately someone can easily purchase and rip off your product.

  • Communicating value: since you’re essentially selling an invisible object, it can be hard to push consumers to purchase (vs. something physical they need, like a pair of shoes). This means you have to focus your marketing efforts to sell the transformation.

Conclusion: 60+ Profitable Ideas for Digital Products to Sell by Niche

I love digital products: they’re flexible, scalable, and are a great way to diversify your income.

Whether you’re selling digital products on Etsy or direct to your audience view a Link Tree or Stan Store, digital products are an accessible way to earn income in your business.

Remember, we learn best from people who have done what we want to do. That means that you don’t have to be the top world expert on something to have a digital product, you just need to help someone get from Point A to Point B in an efficient way.

I’ve heard this referred to as “expert enough” and is a great term to remember as you embark on your digital product journey.
